Skiing Adventures
Ski the Haute Route (France and Switzerland)
The route between the two alpine resorts of Chamonix and Zermatt is one of the largest skiing adventures in the world. It takes a week to most skiers to travel the 140 km of the raid, which you can admire some of the most beautiful peaks of the Alps. It's not a walkover: the course is difficult, with more than 10 000 m elevation and 20 glaciers to cross. If you prefer hiking, wait until summer to do the Haute Route on foot. Guided raids leave Chamonix; rate - U.S. $2250 minimum - depends on group size. Notions of mountaineering and backcountry essential.
